STAPLEFORD PARK'S BEAUTIFUL REFURBISHMENT

Russell Sage is delighted to have played an important part in the renaissance of Stapleford Park.

The Russell Sage Studio was commissioned in the autumn of 2007 to conceive and install the major restoration and redesign of Stapleford Park’s magical interiors in tune with today's contemporary customer who enjoys and understands that true quality is in the detail of the magnificent architecture.

As with all the public rooms at Stapleford Park, no expense has been spared with the fine collection of antiques throughout the house enhanced with many new acquisitions. In the Drawing Room a magnificent 18th century Irish satinwood sideboard with inlaid mahogany scenes has been added. In the Harborough Room a superb Cuban mahogany regency sideboard buffet has been carefully selected to enhance the glorious dramatic blood red silk walls. In the Saloon, an impressive Queen Anne inlaid marquetry pier cabinet offsets the rich olive green Gainsborough silks beautifully.

Russell's imaginative design scheme reflects the spectacular history of Stapleford Park as a grand entertaining country house.

In Stapleford Park's Reception Hall, Fromental, the hand stitched silk wallpaper company were commissioned to carefully design a Japanese flora and fauna scene with exotic birds flying throughout. The birds are carrying the 36 family coats of arms associated with the 700 year history of the estate.

The Marble Hall with its rich mahogany panelling, was daringly recoloured a rich blood red to contrast with the magnificent edition painting of the tapestry originally hung in this space when the Gretton family left the building 21 years ago. Fifteen hand painted coats of arms were also added to this space to continue to reflect the ascendancy of the estate.

The Library interior has been reinvented with an authentic Watts of Westminster ‘Pugin’ Archive paper discreetly added to the original scheme. On these walls, Russell brought the history of the estate up to date with a collection of commissioned animal portraits of the current Stapleford Park family pets.

Connecting to the Library, in the Drawing Room guests can see the new elegant scheme, where Russell again sought out the finest quality furnishings. Gainsborough Silk Weavers, England’s most important textile mill and Royal Warrant Holders for supply of textiles to The Queen, were commissioned to produce an edition of stately home damask in silver grey and soft pink silk. This was used to frame the beautiful view towards the 500 acres of Stapleford Park's grounds. Graceful touches were added by using antique cranberry glass to pick up the soft pink accent of the room.

Russell is particularly proud of the superb reimagining of the Harborough Room, hung with a specially commissioned blood red silk, with a dramatic contrasting olive green ceiling. Here Stapleford Park's famous 18th century ship portraits have been rehung, with the accent of their glorious gilded and gessoed frames reflected by the gilding of the original ceiling and cornice.

The Saloon, heart of Stapleford Park, has been hung throughout with over 300 metres of hand made olive damask silk. Here the sporting and hunting aspects of the estate history are celebrated with the regrouping of the dramatic taxidermy collection, spot lit for extra glamour. Guests can gather around the high marble fireplace, as they have done throughout Stapleford Park's history, on comfortable large green leather sofas.

Along with all of Stapleford Park's public rooms, Russell has dramatically re-worked the world famous Grinling Gibbons dining room. The famous paint suppliers ‘Farrow and Ball’ supplied the beautiful Elephant's Breath grey to all the fine carving, which now throws the exceptionally fine carving into dramatic detail. The windows have been hung with hand made grey and gold Gainsborough Silk to add glamour to guests sumptuous dining experiences. Fine antique portraits, originally hung throughout the house, have been brought together for the first time.
